What Is Ringworm?

homoeopathic medicine for ringworm

Ringworm (tinea or dermatophytosis) is a type of fungal infection of the skin that actually has nothing to do with worms. The infection can occur just about anywhere on the body and has different names depending on which part of the body it affects.
Ringworm is a superficial fungal infection that doesn’t cause disease below the surface of the skin. Ringworm of the body, specifically the trunk and limbs, is called tinea corporis.
Infections on other areas of the body are called:
Tinea pedis (or athlete's foot): on the soles of the feet
Tinea cruris (or jock itch): on the groin, inner thighs, and buttocks
Tinea barbae: on the beard area
Tinea manuum: on the palms of the hands
Tinea capitis: on the scalp
Tinea unguium (or onychomycosis): on the fingernails and toenails

Itchy skin
Red, scaly, or cracked skin
A ring-shaped rash (from which ringworm gets its name)
Hair loss in the affected area (if hair was present)
The symptoms tend to appear between 4 and 14 days after the skin comes into contact with the fungi that cause ringworm
Ringworm typically starts out as red or pink skin patches (or spots) that may be either flat or slightly raised. In this initial stage, the sores may be moist, but more often they're dry, scaly, and itchy.
Over time, the rash will increase in size. Next, the center of the rash will start to clear up, leaving a ring-shaped infection with a red, raised border and a healthy-looking center (although the center may remain scaly and red).
If you scratch the rash you may break the skin, which could lead to a bacterial infection.
And if you immediately touch other areas of your body after scratching, you may also inadvertently spread the ringworm infection. So treating at the first sign of infection is vital.

Is Ringworm Contagious and How Can I Prevent it

Ringworm is highly contagious before symptoms are even apparent. You can catch ringworm by:
Having direct, skin-to-skin contact with affected areas of an infected person's body.
Playing with pets. Cats and dogs, and especially kittens and puppies, are common carriers, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and you can contract ringworm by petting or grooming them. Touching other infected animals, such as guinea pigs or farm animals like lambs and cows, can also lead to an infection. Sometimes an animal’s infection looks like an area where the fur is patchy or scaly, but the signs may not always be visible to you.  Be sure to take your pet to the veterinarian if you suspect they’ve got an infection.
Touching an object or surface that's contaminated with the fungi, such as clothing, towels, bed linens, brushes, chairs, and toilets.
Having prolonged exposure to contaminated soil, though this is rare.

Avoid sharing personal items such as towels and hair brushes.
Change out of thick or wet clothing if you’re in warm, humid surroundings.
Always wear clean socks if you’re prone to athlete’s foot.
Try to keep common areas in gyms, locker rooms, and childcare centers especially clean.  And don’t go barefoot in these kinds of common, damp areas — wear flip flops or some similar footwear.
If your pet has ringworm, wear gloves and long sleeves when handling them until their infection is resolved. Vacuum areas in your home where your pet tends to spend time to get rid of infected flakes of skin and hair. And disinfect hard surfaces; diluted bleach (one-quarter cup in a gallon of water) or other disinfectants can kill the fungi.
Clip nails and toenails short and keep them clean.
Keep feet clean and dry
Homeopathic treatment
Sepia– Sepia is obtained from squid’s ink as contact with the ink produces the same symptoms as those produced by ringworm pathogens. The practitioner will ask you several questions including those about your diet, previous illnesses, how many times the ringworm has occurred, your ability to handle heat, cold etc and only then prescribe Sepia in the right potency. Sepia is a good homeopathic remedy for treating ringworm in kids particularly those who having a tendency to sweat at night
SulphurSulphur is a very potent homeopathic remedy used for treating ringworm of the scalp. It is ideal when scalp ringworm infections like itching, pus, hair loss or skin blistering are present.
Rhus Toxicodendron– This homeopathy remedy for ringworm is obtained by distilling poison ivy leaves overnight. Poison ivy also produces same symptoms as those of ringworm, so Rhus Tox is ideal homeopathic medicine for treating ringworm symptoms like burning, pain, itching etc.

-   THE WORD “miasm”has originated from the greek word miasma which literally  means upto hahnemann many things ,including polluting exhalation ,infecting agent.

miasm refers to the dynamic disease producing power which stains and pollute the human organism with unhealthy tendencies and thus becomes the producer of different type of disease.

Two types-
1-acute miasm
2-chronic miasm
Acute miasm-
acute miasm is a dynamic disease-producing power which causes acute, specific, infectious epidemic disease having almost fixed manifestation.
acute miasm again of two type-
(a)Recurring type-it refers to that type of acute miasm which recurs in the same manner more than once in the life time of a person.
                    Example-asiatic cholera
(b)-non- recurring type or fixed miasm-
it refersto that type of acute miasm which attacks persons once In a life time.
    Example-smallpox,measles,whooping cough,mumps

Anger management

                        Anger management

          5 anger management tips:-

1. Think before you speak-
In the heat of the moment, it's easy to say something you'll later regret. Take a few moments to collect your thoughts before saying anything — and allow others involved in the situation to do the same.
2. Once you're calm, express your anger
As soon as you're thinking clearly, express your frustration in an assertive but nonconfrontational way. State your concerns and needs clearly and directly, without hurting others or trying to control them
3. Get some exercise
Physical activity can help reduce stress that can cause you to become angry. If you feel your anger escalating, go for a brisk walk or run, or spend some time doing other enjoyable physical activities.
4. Identify possible solutions
Instead of focusing on what made you mad, work on resolving the issue at hand. Does your child's messy room drive you crazy? Close the door. Is your partner late for dinner every night? Schedule meals later in the evening — or agree to eat on your own a few times a week. Remind yourself that anger won't fix anything and might only make it worse.
5. Practice relaxation skills
When your temper flares, put relaxation skills to work. Practice deep-breathing exercises, imagine a relaxing scene, or repeat a calming word or phrase, such as "Take it easy." You might also listen to music, write in a journal or do a few yoga poses — whatever it takes to encourage relaxation.

Anterior triangle of the neck

anterior triangle of neck

Anterior triangle of the neck

The anterior triangle of neck is an anatomical division created by the muscles of the head and neck.
the anterior triangle of the neck lies between midline of the neck and sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Note-all triangle mentioned here are paired left and right.

             it is bounded by:-
.superiorly-inferior border of the mandible
.laterally-medial border of sternocleidomastoid
.medially-imaginary sagittal line down midline of body.

.muscles-muscle of hyoid bone
.nerve-numerous cranial nerve are located in the anterior triangle-
         1-facial nerve(vii)
         4-accessory nerve(xi)
         5-hypoglossal nerve(xii)
.arteries-carotid artery
.vein –internal jugular vein

The hyoid bone ,suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles are used to further subdivide the anterior triangle into four triangle.
we shall look border and content of each.
Carotid Triangle
The carotid triangle of the neck has the following boundaries:
Superior – posterior belly of the digastric muscle.
Lateral – medial border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Inferior – superior belly of the omohyoid muscle.
The main contents of the carotid triangle are the common carotid artery (which bifurcates within the carotid triangle into the external and internal carotid arteries), the internal jugular vein, and the hypoglossal and vagus nerves

Submental Triangle
The submental triangle in the neck is situated underneath the chin. It contains the submental lymph nodes, which filter lymph draining from the floor of the mouth and parts of the tongue.
It is bounded:
Inferiorly – hyoid bone.
Medially – midline of the neck.
Laterally – anterior belly of the digastric
The base of the submental triangle is formed by the mylohyoid muscle, which runs from the mandible to the hyoid bone.
Submandibular Triangle
The submandibular triangle is located underneath the body of the mandible. It contains the submandibular gland (salivary), and lymph nodes. The facial artery and vein also pass through this area.
The boundaries of the submandibular triangle are:
Superiorly – body of the mandible.
Anteriorly – anterior belly of the digastric muscle.
Posteriorly – posterior belly of the digastric muscle.
Muscular Triangle
The muscular triangle is situated more inferiorly than the subdivisions. It is a slightly ‘dubious’ triangle, in reality having four boundaries. The muscular triangle contains some muscles and organs – the infrahyoid muscles, the pharynx, and the thyroid, parathyroid glands.
The boundaries of the muscular triangle are:
Superiorly – hyoid bone.
Medially – imaginary midline of the neck.
Supero-laterally – superior belly of the omohyoid muscle.
Infero-laterally – inferior portion of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

(THOUGHT POWER)
(THOUGHT POWER)

(CELL,TISSUE,AND

Basal metabolic rate(BMR)

basic metabolic rate

BMR may be defined as the amount of heat given out by a subject who, though awake,is lying in a state of maximum physical and mental rest under comfortable condition of temperature ,pressure and humidity,12-18 hour (post absorptive)after meal.
BMR is usually expressed as the heat production per sq. meter of the body surface per hour. In adult male normal BMR is about 40 calories per sq. meter of body surface per hour and in an adult female about 37 calories.

The surface area of an average adult is about 1.8sq. Meter, and can be calculated from the following formula:
S=0.0071 x W 0.435   x H0.725
where W=body weight in kg, H=height in cm and S=surface area in sq. meter

Some example:-

(a) obesity-the BMR is directly proportional to the surface area of the subject .larger the surface area greater will be the heat loss, and equally higher will be the heat production (metabolic rate).otherwise temperature balance will be upset.for this reason BMR depends upon the surface area.hence obesity should increase the BMR.
(b) hypertension:
1mg of thyroxine increase BMR by about 1,000 thyrotoxicosis ,BMR may increase by 50-100% above normal.
(c) Exercise :
trained athletes and manual workers have a slightly higher BMR than persons leading a sedentary life.

Raksha Bandhan

happy raksha bandhan

hyoid bone

Introduction -The hyoid bone is a “U”shaped structure, located in the anterior lies at the base of the mandible where it acts as a site of attachment for the anterior neck muscle.
Structure or parts-

2-two greater horns
3-two lesser horns

Note-horns means pointed projection
1-body –the central part of the has an anterior convex and a concave posterior surface.
2-greater horn –it projects each end of the body,in a posterior ,superior and lateral direction.
-it acts as a site of attachment for numerous neck muscle.
3 –lesser horn-it arises from superior aspect of the hyoid bone, near the origin of the greater horn.
Muscular attachment
It not articulate with any bone and is suspended (supported)by the muscle and ligament.
   suprahyoid                                         infrahyoid
1-diagastric                                        1-thyrohyoid
2-stylohyoid                                        2-omohyoid
3-geniohyoid                                       3-sternohyoid
Ligament attachment:-
Three main ligaments that attach to the hyoid bone-
1-stylohyoid ligament-it extent from the styloid process of the temporal bone to the lesser horn of the hyoid bone.
2-thyrohyoid membrane-it originate from the superior border of the thyroid cartilage and attach to the posterior surface of the hyoid bone and the greater horn.
3-hyoepiglottic ligament-it connects the hyoid bone to the anterior aspect of the epiglottis
1-the hyoid bone is well protected by the mandible bone  and cervical spine ,so fracture is rare.
2-hyoid bone fracture, are characteristically associated with strangulation (found in approximately 1/3 of all homicides by strangulation).
it is therefore a significant post –mortem finding.
3-odynophagia-painful swallowing.
